Porto
Cervo, June 29 2016 - It was an interlocutory day in Porto Cervo, where
Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is hosting the Audi Settimana delle Bocche,
event valid as second appointment of the 52 Super Series circuit. A
weak and unstable breeze suggested to the Race Committee to cancel
the expected coastal race, replaced by a a single windward-leeward
race, characterized
by a couple of course changes and shortened on the final run.
A really
difficult situation, well managed by Azzurra (Parada-Vascotto), winner
in front of Xio Hurakan (Serafini-Chieffi), that recovered well after
yesterday mast breakage, and Quantum Racing (Baird-Hutchinson), now
leader of the ranking tied with the Guillermo Parada's crew.
Bronenosec Gazprom (Liubomirov-Ivaldi) raced quite well, making some interesting moves, but had to negotiate its performance with the continuos wind shifts, ending the race in eighth position, between Platoon (Muller Spreer-Wieser) and
Alegre (Soriano-Harrapp). By virtue of today's results, Vladimir
Liubomirov's TP52 is now seventh in the overall ranking, between Ran
Racing (Zennstrom-Larson) and Xiu Hurakan.
Alberto Barovier, team manager and bowman of the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club bearer hull, explained: "We
found some challenging conditions out there: the light breeze was
decreasing and really unstable. We sailed well upwind and downwind, but
with these constantly changing conditions it was quite impossible to
remain in phase with the wind: actually we gained in the first part of
the race and we lost a couple of positions in the final stages. We hope
for tomorrow in better weather situation, although the forecasts appear
not so different respect today".
The Audi Settimana delle Bocche will resume tomorrow around noon, with at least two other windward-leeward races.
