Melges 20 - Raging Russian Bogatyrs

MIAMI, Fla. (Dec. 1, 2017) - The first day of the 2017/18 Melges 20 Miami Winter Series opened with near perfect conditions. A pleasant 11-15 kts out of the Northeast and sunny Florida skies provided three great, tricky races. PRO Blake Middleton and his legion of volunteers from the Coconut Grove Sailing Club did a great job getting off racing on time and in efficient fashion.

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA (24 November 2017) - After 7,000 miles of close ocean racing, it was a podium finish for Vestas 11th Hour Racing in Cape Town, South Africa. The crew of seven men and two women, plus one onboard reporter, finished in third place at 1937 UTC on November 24. The Danish and American flagged vessel left Lisbon, Portugal on November 5th with a bullseye on their back after winning Leg 1 from Alicante, Spain.

After five fairly solid windy days in a row, the wind machine, unfortunately, decided to take a slight break on the final day of the 2017 Airwaves Noumea Dream Cup - meaning that the rankings for the slalom remain unchanged from overnight.

29/11/2017 - Seconda giornata a Barra Grande (BRA) per i Campionati Mondiali Giovanili TwinTip:Racing Slalom e altre due serie portate a termine con vento forte e mare formato.  Dopo due giornate di regate al comando della classifica maschile l’americano Cameron Maramenides sembra non avere rivali con 3 primi posti e un secondo che scarta, Alessandro Omar Caruso (CV Point Break Fregene) oggi incappa in un 18esimo che scarta e un settimo che lo posizionano al sesto posto in generale con Lorenzo Boschetti (CN Cesenatico) che mantiene la 13esima posizione.

A VARAZZE IL MEMORIAL “ANGELA LUPI” TRA BONACCIA E TRAMONTANA

Organizzato dal Varazze Club Nautico, sabato 25 e domenica 26 novembre si è svolto nelle acque antistanti la cittadina ligure il Memorial “Angela Lupi” dedicato alla storica segretaria del Varazze Club Nautico, giunto ormai alla settima edizione.  Sono stati poco meno di 130 i concorrenti che si sono presentati sull’allineamento, dei quali 54 Juniores e 72 Cadetti.

28/11/2017 - Il Sindaco di Genova, Marco Bucci, ha ricevuto oggi a Palazzo Tursi Andrea Tagliamacco, Head of Business Development della Volvo Ocean Race, per parlare della candidatura della Città ad ospitare l’edizione 2021 dell’importantissima regata internazionale. L’incontro ufficiale è stato preceduto da una riunione operativa negli uffici della società Porto Antico di Genova con il Presidente Giorgio Mosci ed il Direttore Generale Alberto Cappato, cui hanno partecipato anche Luca Di Liberto, iniziale promotore della candidatura della nostra città quale tappa della futura edizione della VOR, e Antonio Micillo, Presidente del Coni Liguria; nel corso della riunione sono stati messi a punto ulteriori dettagli riguardo alla logistica del Porto Antico e alle specifiche esigenze di uno dei più importanti eventi velici del mondo.

When you’re trying to make a game plan for the start and first beat, it’s important to collect a lot of strategic information before the race. But you don’t have to do this alone. The rules say a boat cannot receive outside help while she is racing. However, there is no rule against getting or giving help before your preparatory signal. In fact, working with one of your competitors may help both of you understand the wind and current better than either could do alone.

Nico Parlier and Daniela Moroz crowned Formula Kite World Champions

France's Nico Parlier topped off a dramatic week at the Formula Kite World Championships in Oman with a near-perfect exhibition that only served to underscore his dominance and land him the title.  In the tense battles of the climactic final day's Medal Series decider, the French rider's sheer pace meant he had the title in the bag even before the last race, adding to the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) KiteFoil Class world title that he secured in Italy last month.
