MELGES 20 - Sweet 16 in Talamone

Talamone, Italy - Congratulations to Richard Davies on Section 16 with tactician Chris Rast and crew member Manuel Modena as they are 2016 Sailing Series® Melges 20 Talamone Champions! After three days and eight races, each jam packed with great racing and top-notch competition, Davies won the event with a 25-point advantage.

Sunday presented two final races in which Alessandro Rombelli aboard STIG rallied from eighth position overnight to land on the podium. Rombelli's bullet in Race Seven, and fourth in Race Eight was enough to move him up an impressive six positions to claim second place.

American Drew Freides on Pacific Yankee also felt the full effects of a successful regatta to finish third overall. His stunning performance on Day Two certainly brought him closer to the podium, but a slightly better than mid-fleet finish in Race Seven, and a sixth in Race Eight was enough to deliver his first ever podium finish racing on the European circuit.

Wilma Homann once again took home the top Corinthian trophy beating out Mirko Bargolini on Spirit of Nerina.

Summertime is always a busy time for the Melges 20 all across Europe. Three events are now complete on the 2016 Sailing Series® Melges 20 circuit. The fourth and final chapter takes place on July 1-4 in amazing Riva Del Garda, preceded by the German Open on June 25-26. On August 19-21, the Russian Open offers the perfect opportunity for teams with get warmed up for Worlds happening on August 25-28 in Scarlino!
