Olympic Sailing News - 13 August 2016

On day five the RS:X gold and silver were locked in, and on day six there were more medals, including a first in sailing for Croatia, in the bag.    Tonci Stipanovic will get a medal in the Laser, but he now has to continue his good form in the Medal Race on Monday (15 August) to see if that colour can be gold. Tom Burton in the Laser and Marit Bouwmeester in the Laser Radial will also be standing on the podium come medal presentation time.

Those three will have to wait for their Medal Race as they have a lay day tomorrow, but the RS:X sailors return to action and will be the first to sail in theirs in front of the crowds along Flamengo Beach. The picture above will give you an idea of how close to the action the spectators will be.

The 49er and the 49erFX sailors have reached the half way stage, and it's as we all thought before the start of competition. Burling and Tuke at the top of the men's skiff, open in the women's.

Another class that is still open is the Nacra 17. The Australians are top with the the 57-year-old Santi Lange pushing them hard. There is also a hint of a comeback from the four-time Nacra 17 World Champions from France.
