Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

RYA aids appeal for participation data following sailings removal from Paralympic Games.   On Saturday 31 January, the International Paralympic Committee announced its sporting programme for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.  The news that sailing was not to be a part of the 2020 Paralympics came as hugely disappointing news for the sport worldwide, and for British Sailing Team athletes who are already working hard towards Tokyo.

The RYA believes this decision is a loss to the Paralympic Games itself as sailing provides a unique element to the sporting programme. As such, the RYA has offered its help and support to the International Sailing Federation in whatever way necessary in a bid to reinstate the sport back into the Paralympic Games at the earliest available opportunity.

ISAF, as the recognised International Federation within the Paralympic movement, has appealed to its Member National Authorities, IFDS Recognised National Authorities and Class Associations around the world for their help and support in providing participation data in relation to Paralympic sailing as it prepares its case for reinstatement for the IPC Governing Board.

The RYA has submitted its UK statistics to ISAF and urges fellow MNAs around the world take the same prompt action.

Letters of support for disabled sailing to be reinstated for Tokyo 2020 should be sent to disabled@isaf.com
