Sailor of the Year – FIV: Luna Rossa awarded the “Special Prize for Technological Innovation”

On 28th May, with a new streaming version, the 26th edition of the “Velista dell’Anno” (Italian Sailor of the Year) award was held. The event has the FIV – Federazione Italiana Vela (Italian Sailing Federation) as institutional partner. The jury assigned the “Special Prize for Technological Innovation” to the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team.

Francesco Ettorre, president of the Federation, awarded the accolade to the team “for the development of a unique project, characterised by innovative solutions in the making of the AC75, the class of boat designed to participate in the 36th edition of the America’s Cup”.

Horacio Carabelli, design team coordinator together with Martin Fisher, “virtually” accepted the award and took the opportunity to underline how important the technological contributions of numerous Italian companies had been in developing a boat as complex as the AC75.

During the ceremony Max Sirena, Skipper and Team Director, spoke about the issues faced during the lockdown emergency and plans about the future programme.
