Cascais,
October 15th, 2016 - After an amazing season of sailing, the last
warning signal of the 52 Super Series 2016 was given today at 14.05
local time in Cascais. The sky went progressively clearing from heavy
black clouds that characterized the morning of the crews on the dock and
a wind blowing around 12 knots for all day on the race course allowed
to complete, also today, another day of good sailing with two W/Ls.
The
order of the ranking and, in particular, of the boats that would have
got on the podium, has not been easy to predict until the very last lag
of the regattas of the EGNOS 52 Super Series. At the end of the first
race of the day, in fact, number seven of the series, Azzurra was
leading with 18 points, immediately tackled by Quantum Racing (21),
winner of all the events of this season until now and already 2016 52
Super Series Champion. Sled was third with 29 points and
Bronenosec-Gazprom chasing them with 33 points.
In
truth, the last regatta of the event didn't bring many changes over the
preliminary results, with Azzurra maintaining the leadership and winning
the EGNOS 52 Super Series Cascais Cup, followed by Quantum Racing and
Sled. The dream, in the end, vanished for Bronenosec-Gazprom: the
extremely good results of the last two days of racing ignited the hopes
for the podium both in the event and in the Series, but unfortunately
the crew didn't manage to get medaled, closing the event in fifth
position and the circuit in sixth, with just one point more respect the
past year.
The
balance for the overall season for Bronenosec-Gasprom is in any case
positive: the team has often managed to reach great result and the crew
has grown up a lot. There is equilibrium on board and the helmsmen
Vladimir Liubomirov is doing a good job in keeping together a motivated
crew. The boat carrying the colors of SPYC is fast and there are all the
potentialities to do well also in the future.
After
the Mediterranean legs of Scarlino, Porto Cervo, Puerto Portals and
Mahon, the crews of the 52 Super Series had a first taste of Atlantic in
Cascais: it will be the Atlantic Ocean, again, to welcome these yachts
in the upcoming season. The first leg is going to take place in Key
West, during the Quantum Key West Race Week, in January 2017.
In
Cascais, Bronenosec Gazprom has been sailed by Vladimir Liubomirov
