Vento di Sardegna wins the Two Handed Transatlantic Race

The Navimeteo Team is pleased to announce the victory of the sailor Andrea Mura from Cagliari, together with Riccardo Apolloni in the 2012 Two Stars regatta, after crossing the finish line on 17th June. They covered the 2786 miles from the port of Plymouth in England to Newport R.I. in the USA in just 13 days, 12 hours and 47 minutes, maintaining a vmg of 8.6 knots, and outdistancing second place Roaring Forty by 12 hours. All sorts of marine weather conditions were faced, as well as the points of sail as part of the strategy adopted, maintaining speeds of over 20 knots and managing to successfully tackle the areas where winds strength dropped.

As to the maritime and technical points of view, the merit was to correctly steer the boat in all the phases of the regatta, facing the numerous tricky marine weather situations encountered while crossing the North Atlantic. This trophy for Vento di Sardegna adds on to the other one obtained in 2010 in the Route du Rhum, the solo transatlantic regatta from Saint Malo to Pointe à Pitre in Guadalupe that takes place once every four years. Considering the difficulties Andrea Mura faced for participating to the regatta, these two consecutive victories in oceanic sailing regattas are even more important. Navimeteo has acted as sponsor and tecnical supplier of Vento di Sardegna for several years.
