We left the harbor in the same order we finished, with the same deltas. Alvimedica, who had one of the biggest leads yet in this race, crossed the start line at midday (12:00 local time). Dongfeng was next in line nearly two hours behind (13:47). Mapfre started just a half an hour after the Chinese team, followed by Team Brunel (14:38), Abu Dhabi (15:54), Vestas (16:04) and Team SCA (16:32). We could still see both Vestas and Abu Dhabi when we left the start course. It was not easy to sit on shore and watch the other boats leave the harbor one after another.
It’s a short leg with less than 500 miles to sail. The course is pretty much straight forward. We have a few exclusion zones due to traffic and wind farms to avoid before we can round Denmark and point towards Gothenburg. As always we depend on weather. The forecasted light winds can have a massive effect and cause changes in the positions. Whoever gets favourable tides will be laughing. Favourable conditions or not, we have to make the best out of every opportunity that comes our way and squeeze every knot out of the boat to gain on the boats ahead. We are in hunting mode.
We know we can sail this boat well. We have nothing to lose.Anna-Lena Elled OBR Team SCAQUOTES"After a 36 hour pit-stop in The Hague we are on our way to the final destination Gothenburg. Thanks for the warm welcome, a great stay and cheerful goodbye in the Dutch city," Carolijn Brouwer "We are about to complete over 38000 nautical miles in this around the world race. We put ourselves in a tough position for this final sprint but we have surprised people this far! Keep cheering us to the end! "– Stacey JacksonI’m in hunting mood! – Sam Davies
