PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (December 11, 2013) – American entrepreneur,
computer scientist pioneer, and sailing enthusiast Jim Clark will give a
closing keynote address to the Sailing Leadership Forum attendees on
Saturday, February 8 at the Hilton San Diego Resort (Calif.). Clark became one of the most famous and successful high-tech
entrepreneurs in the world during the height of the Internet revolution
in the late 1990s. He founded several industry changing Silicon Valley
technology companies, including Silicon Graphics, Inc., Netscape
Communications Corporation, myCFO and Healtheon.
His research work in
computer graphics led to the development of systems for the fast
rendering of three-dimensional computer images, and Netscape provided
the first real consumer ramp onto the Internet that changed the world.
He is renowned for his innovation that created a new, more efficient way
for people to work, learn and communicate. His story is outlined in the
Michael Lewis authored book, The New New Thing: A Silicon Valley Story,
published in 1999.
As an avid sailor, Clark understands the challenges facing our sport
today and the need for new ideas that lead to successful change. He will
share with attendees the lessons he learned as he transformed the tech
industry. Clark will discuss the importance of charting new paths for
our sport, dealing with adversity and challenges, and the power of
making things happen to create something new. Clark is an enthusiastic
sailor and the owner of several high-tech sailboats that he has helped
to design.
