Cascais, October 13th, 2016 - The
good results of the last two events of the 52 Super Series made it
evident that the crew of Bronenosec-Gazprom had the potentiality to do
great things. After
a start in the EGNOS 52 Super Series Cascais Cup that was not of the
easiest, with two eighth places scored in the first day and with no
racing due to adverse weather conditions yesterday, today the yacht
helmed by Vladimir Liubomirov showed all of its potentialities.
With
a wind that was at first shifty, so much that it forced the Race
Committee to raise the AP Flag, two races were eventually sailed with a
breeze blowing from North-West around 6-9 knots.
The
crew of the yacht carrying the colors of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club
literally dominated the first race of the day, taking advantage in the
best way possible of a slight shift in the wind pressure that allowed
them to race a perfect downwind leg, where it became also possible for
Bronenosec-Gazprom to get in front of Azzurra, until that moment on top
of the fleet, and to leave Quantum Racing, that today earned the overall
success in 2016 52 Super Series, in third position.
Race
number four, second of the day, was concluded in fourth position by
Bronenosec-Gazprom, after a race whose results were uncertain until the
very last moment, with the boats on top of the fleet approaching the
finish line extremely close the one to the other. This second good
result in a row granted Bronenosec-Gazprom the title of Boat of the Day
for today.
The
crew expressed the satisfaction for today's results through the words
of Francesco Mongelli, navigator of the team that, once back on the
dock, declared: "It was a great day for us: we are all really
satisfied about the results scored. The first one was a great victory,
earned thanks to the good boat handling and some intelligent call during
the first downwind leg. In the second race we were fighting for the
leadership, but we loose some positions in the final leg: it can
happens, especially when you compare yourself with opponents that leave
nothing to the case. But, again, it was great to be among the leaders of
the fleet and to know that you can loose or earn something. We hope to
find the same determination also tomorrow in order to improve our
ranking".
After
the races of today, Azzurra is still holding the leadership of the
event (12), tackled by Quantum Racing (12) that overwhelmed the gap of
disadvantage accumulated in the first day of the EGNOS 52 Super Series
Cascais Cup and by Sled (14). Bronenosec-Gazprom is now fifth (21), just
one point behind Platoon (20).
For tomorrow Race Committee plans to run three races.
