52 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - BRONENOSEC GAZPROM GAINS THE SIXTH POSITION

Mahon, September 17th 2016 - An amazing day of sailing has just finished in Mahon, despite the unsteady weather conditions, the shifty wind that obliged the Race Committee to move the course completely between race one and race two, and the waves that have been progressively swelling all through the afternoon.

The leader of the day is Azzurra that scored two first places and, thanks to this, managed to recover from the fourth to the second place of the overall ranking. This is not the only news of the day, though, because Quantum Racing, until today undisputed leader of the overall ranking, after closing the first race of the day, the seventh of the series, in second position, was disqualified in race number eight for an OCS under black flag.

Some changes then occurred in the overall ranking, with Quantum Racing still maintaining the leadership with 25 points, but with Azzurra reaching the second place and shortening the distance with the leader, distance that is now reduced to just 9 points. Provezza is currently third with 37 points, followed by Ràn Racing, that was occupying the third position until yesterday, with 43 points.

Things may change also for the yacht bearing the colors of the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club, Bronenosec Gazprom that, with the races of today, managed to make another step towards the top of the overall ranking, moving from seventh position to sixth, just one point behind the fifth of the ranking, Platoon.

Alberto Barovier, team manager and bowman of Bronenosec Gazprom, showed a very positive mood after today's races: "It was a good day today, the first race was tricky because of the many wind shifts: we finished seventh and that's not bad, considering we didn't have a perfect start, but we could take advantage of the wind shifts in a good way. Second race has been tougher, with big waves that in some moments made it a bit difficult to drive the boat; Vladimir, our owner and helmsmen, made a good job and we finished in fourth position, conscious that maybe we could have also reached a better placement". The mood of the crew has eventually got better, after a start of this World Championship that has not been that easy for Bronenosec Gazprom. "We are just one point away from the fifth and, even if in a World Championship you fight hard since the very first day, tomorrow we are going to give everything we have, in the last two races of the series, to achieve the best result possible" Barovier added.

The races of today, hence, brought big changes, so much that we can now say that the fight to get on top of the world in this 52 World Championship is still open and everything will be determined by the last two races that will be run tomorrow.

In Mahon, Bronenosec Gazprom is sailed by Vladimir Liubomirov (owner-driver), Michele Ivaldi (skipper-strategist), Adrian Stead (tactician), Francesco Mongelli (navigator), Victor Serezhkin (backstay), Paul Westlake (mainsail trimmer), Claudio Celon (trimmer), Zack Hurst (trimmer), Emanuele Marino (grinder), Pietro Mantovani (grinder), Andy Fethers (pitman), Alex Kulakov (floater), Michele Cannoni (mid-bow) and Alberto Barovier (team manager-bowman).
