Olympic Sailing News - 14 August 2016

The first of the Medal Races.   We already knew that the Netherlands and Great Britain had medals from the Windsurfer before the Medal Races had even started today, but all the women’s medals and the men’s bronze were still up for grabs.     From the medals that were on offer, it was France who came out on top with that men’s bronze and the gold in the women’s. China and Russia claimed the silver and bronze repectively.   You can see how the Medal Races unfolded by clicking on the link below to review the day.

Not to be outdone by the windsurfers, Great Britain’s Giles Scott confirmed gold in the Finn with the Medal Race to spare. He continues the long tradition of British winners, taking over from Ben Ainslie who got the nod over Scott for the London 2012 Finn place (and we all know how that one turned out).

The 470’s were also in action today with the hunt for medals really taking shape, and there is a sailing legend moving up the leaderboard in the Nacra 17. Could 57-year-old Santiago Lange win a medal in the Multihull? He is top going in to their Medal Race after today.
