Global Ocean Race - Leg 2 Virtual Race is waiting for gamers

At 12:00 UTC (14:00 local) on Sunday 27 November, the six, double-handed Class40s in the Global Ocean Race 20011-12 (GOR) will cross the start line of Leg 2 in Cape Town with 7,000 miles of racing through the Indian Ocean to the finish line in Wellington, New Zealand, ahead of them. The GOR’s Virtual Race, provided by UnitedGames, will follow the same route as the GOR fleet for Leg 2 and will continue around the planet for the remaining three legs for the duration of the GOR. In Leg 1, the winning virtual yacht of French gamer, francois31Danfers, completed the course from Palma, Mallorca, to Cape Town in 31 days and 20 hours; slightly 24 hours faster than the GOR’s winning Leg 1 Class40, BSL of the New Zealand father-and-son team of Ross and Campbell Field.
Indeed, the top five virtual yachts also finished racing ahead of the Fields with Spanish gamers Sdru2 and Tronquito finishing second and third separated by three hours, followed two hours later by the fourth and fifth placed virtual boats separated by 30 minutes at the virtual Cape Town finish line.

While prizes for the virtual GOR winners of a limited edition Alex Thomson Racing (ATR) – Hugo Boss souvenir book Hugo Boss GBR99, plus ATR ‘goody bags’; Navy Seal watches from the GOR’s Official Timekeeper, Luminox and GOR Special Edition Bollé sunglasses have already been dispatched to the Leg 1 podium gamers, the overall prizes for the entire circumnavigation of a VIP day sailing on Alex Thomson’s IMOCA Open 60, Hugo Boss and a top-of-the-range Garmin 4012 chartplotter are still up for grabs as out of the first three legs, only your best result will be counted and the other two lesser results will be discarded. This means early players will have three shots at reaching a proper result, while new players can still join the race as they start with the second or third leg.
